What is CCE?

Creativity, Culture and Education (CCE) is a national organisation created to generate transformational cultural and creative programmes for children and young people to enhance their aspirations, achievements, skills and life chances. Increasingly operating internationally, as well as across England, CCE has a vision for children’s creativity to be encouraged and nurtured both in and out of school. CCE believes all children should experience and access the diverse range of cultural activity because these opportunities can enhance their aspirations, achievements and skills. What type of organisation is CCE?

CCE is an independent registered charity and company limited by guarantee. It is not a quango (quasi-non-governmental organisation). CCE also operates a wholly-owned trading subsidiary company, Creativity, Culture and Education Projects Limited.

Where is CCE based?

CCE has its headquarters in Newcastle upon Tyne with an additional office in London. The head office houses the Chief Executive’s Office, Resources, Schools and Business Development Directorates. CCE is an independent registered charity, rather than a government organisation, so we're not required to provide information in response to requests under the FOI Act.

How is CCE funded?

In 2010/11CCE receives around £38 million funding from Arts Council England (ACE), which in turn is funded by public money from the government and the National Lottery. In common with all ACE-funded organisations, funding levels for 2011/12 onwards have yet to be agreed. In addition, CCE generates income via a range of consultancy and quality assurance services. These include advice on programme design and development, research and evaluation.

How does the creation of CCE affect Creative Partnerships?

Creative Partnerships, which was launched in 2002, is now one of a number of programmes managed by CCE. Creative Partnerships will continue to work with over 2,700 schools across England. The programme is delivered through a range of different local organisations across the country. The only change is that Creative Partnerships schools programmes are now developed and supported by the CCE Schools Directorate based in Newcastle upon Tyne. How is Creative Partnerships delivered and how does it fit together with CCE?

There are 24 ‘Area Delivery Organisations’ across England funded by CCE to deliver our Creative Partnerships (CP) programmes. These ADOs, rather than CCE itself, work directly with schools to deliver the CP programme. Find out more about these organisations and how to contact them

What are the Area Delivery Organisations and how does CCE work with them?

Area Delivery Organisations (ADOs) are those organisations across England funded by CCE to deliver our Creative Partnerships programmes. There are currently 24 ADOs in the network, comprising a wide range of organisations, including cultural organisations, universities, Further Education colleges and independent creative learning agencies.
