The Minister of State for Children and Families, Sarah Teather, has invited Dame Clare Tickell to conduct an independent review of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
The Early Years Foundation Stage 1 is a legal framework for early learning and childcare providers that sets what they should do to keep young children safe, secure and happy. It also sets out what practitioners should do through play to support young children's development and learning.
All organisations and people who are registered with Ofsted to provide early learning and childcare to children aged between birth and the age of five, as well as all schools providing for this age group, have to meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage - regardless of the number of children they care for, or the type of early years service they provide.
The review is looking at how best to protect young children's safety and welfare and support their development and learning. The review is being supported by a secretariat of Department for Education officials.
The consultation closes on Thursday 30 September 2010. To read the consultation document and respond follow the link below.
